A few comments from real Coloradans:

I see a lot of people who just don't need the added insurance. What's the point of raising everyone's rates when only some people need the added coverage? Can't they make that decision on their own? Why should the legislature punish everyone with higher rates?

I used to work for a Property & Casualty insurance provider and I know from watching payment histories and seeing insureds that could not afford basic auto insurance due to PIP get cancelled for non-payment. They still had to get to work to pay the rest of the bills so they went uninsured until PIP went away and they started calling back because they could then afford the coverage.

The bottom line is if you can afford the outrageous cost for insurance with PIP or the new mandatory medical payments coverage, then you can typically get or have medical benefits elsewhere. If they could afford mandatory med-pay, they would rather get health insurance for their entire family.

If the state is worried about drivers having medical coverage I would suggest you focus on the overall healthcare insurance system so people can receive healthcare anytime it is needed rather than just when they have an auto accident. It is irresponsible to only focus on healthcare for drivers, if everyone had adequate health insurance this would be irrelevant.

Please stand up for consumers and vote against insurance rate increases and more government mandates.

NO a thousand times NO leave our insurance alone.  In other words if it is not broke do not fix it.   I am a widow as well as a Senior. I cannot afford  to have my insurance go up.  I am having a hard time paying my insurance now with out the Senate sticking their nose into something  that is none of their business.  We are doing fine without (PIP) so leave our insurance alone.   I would like  to see some of these high paid people live on a fixed income , I doubt they could do it.  A lot of times we have to go with medication or other things we need.  So leave our insurance alone.

As an insurance professional I meet with all my clients on a regular basis to discuss needs, coverage, etc. I recently met with a client who is moving to the Denver area from Wyoming. When I informed him of a potential move by the Colorado Legislature to mandate medical payments coverage he became very upset. He told me the rates in Colorado are higher than any he has ever seen and he doesn't want to be told what he should purchase. When I informed him that our current rates are as low as they have been in years he became even more concerned. Because as he said, our rates are too high now and if he's forced to carry coverage he doesn't want or need they'll be even higher.

Since when did Colorado become a Nanny state? I don't need the government telling me what insurance I have to buy!  I'm sick and tired of our elected officials trying to spend my money for me. From what I read it's just another case of the Government catering to big business.  I just want to know why profitable hospitals need a bail out with my money???

My auto insurance is finally reasonably priced. In 2003 I was paying about $120 per month, or $1,440 per year. Now, with the same car, same insurance company, same driving record, I pay $70 per month, or $840 per year. That's even with adding some medical payments and increasing my liability coverage. I would hate to see my rates go back up to where they were.

As a senior American, I already have adequate medical coverage if I am in an accident. Please, continue to keep me posted on plans in the state legislature to require that I purchase additional medial coverage. With my income, I can't afford it.
